Sometimes we have those moments where we have these awesome ideas that actually work out the way we thought and consider for a minute to consider ourselves a genius. Well not too long ago I had one of these moments. I had opened a package of Red Vines and I would occasionally enjoy them, because you always try to make a good thing last. It just so happened that I couldn't eat them fast enough before the Terrible Thing happened to the licorice.
Of course we all know that the Terrible Thing is the hardening state of licorice. When it's so hard that you feel like you're going to break your teeth trying to eat it.
I spent a few days wallowing trying to just suck as much as I could to get it soft enough to tear a piece off.
Then I had the most brilliant idea.
We all know the concept of putting a piece of bread in our brown sugar so that it softens again. Well...WHAT IF...it worked for licorice as well?!
I decided to perform an experiment.
Now at the beginning of the experiment the licorice was rock hard. I seriously had to suck on it forever and it still felt like I was ripping my teeth off trying to bite on it.
Now a week and a half later these are the results.
SUCCESS!!!!! Genius? Probably so. But dang I was so excited that my random thought actually worked. Maybe that's how the real geniuses work?
So have no fear if your licorice goes stale, just throw in a piece of bread and viola! It's not worth it to cry over hard licorice.
*disclaimer* I have yet to try with Twizzler so try at your own risk.

"Take Bake" - Green Day
Have you ever seen the food network show Chopped? Well basically it's a competition where every round they get a basket of random ingredients and then they have to make a dish out of it. It's hard.
Well Rachel and I had this great idea Saturday night to play Chopped. We decided to make a dessert with what we could find. Then our roommate decided to give us a special ingredient. Oh goodness. I was feeling good until I opened the box.
Tomato soup? What kind of dessert where we supposed to make with that? So we decided to make a tomato cake! We found a recipe online and we exchanged a few ingredients. It looked a little sketchy when we were mixing it but then when it started baking in the oven it smelled really good!
Well it didn't actually bake. It kind of started to caramelize.
Behold your eyes on our Tomato cake.

Yeah it's kind of a sad thing to look at. But it actually didn't taste that badly. It looks ok in the pan until you put it on a plate. Oh man Rachel and I just stood in the kitchen laughing forever about this.

"Good Life" - OneRepublic
I got a new calling. I was waiting to go in and the 1st counselor walks out and looks at my calling on the paper and starts making all these comments about how I have the best calling. I walked in to the office and the first thing he asked me was "Are you engaged?" Nope. "Are you dating anyone?" Nope. "Well have a seat!"
Can you see where this is going?
He started talking about being in Provo and going to BYU and how much focus there is on marriage and dating. Then he asked me if I knew what calling I was getting.
Marriage and Family teacher?
Bingo.
I found this all a little ironic considering my last blog post about loving family. I hope the ward doesn't mind me telling stories and stories about my family because that's what they're gonna get.
Maybe this is a sign that I'll be getting married soon.....eh not probable.
My first lesson is on finances...do I have any knowledge on finances? No. Oh well. I think I'm gonna start with a SNL video that should do the trick.
