On the 9th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
So today during church I thought of a really good memory but then I went to write this and completely forgot. I asked my sisters to see if they had any good ideas or if they could maybe trigger what I was thinking about that. I still can't think of the one that I wanted to write about but oh well. Maybe I will remember it for tomorrow.
The rule of the house is that no one is allowed downstairs until permission is granted. When we were younger we used to wake up and just sit at the top of the stairs until our parents woke up. Then Mom and Dad would go downstairs and just chill and set up the cam-recorder and pretty much just taunt us until they said we could come down :) We still have that rule, just minus the cam-recorder part.

On the 8th day of Christmas...
On the 8th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
Before I started high school my brothers were, of course, in high school and in their choir they sang this song called Peace, Peace. It is one of my all time favorite choir Christmas songs ever. I was able to sing it my freshman year while I was in choir before we moved. (I knew the song even before I made choir because I had heard/loved it so much.) Anyway, we used to stand all around the audience. We would sign while we sang and then the last verse the audience would sing Silent Night while we still sang Peace, Peace. I really miss doing that.
Then we moved and my new choir had the tradition of singing the Hallelujah Chorus and it became one of my all time favorite songs too. :) There is nothing like singing that on stage with everyone. It's such an adrenaline rush. I hoped to have sang it with Kaleen if I could have made it to her concert but the snow canceled it. Oh well, maybe next year.
Well off topic but Brandon and I made it home today. There is still snow on the ground but not as much as Provo. It's so nice to be home and not have to worry about homework or classes. I have a feeling that these two weeks are going to go by really fast.

On the 7th day of Christmas...
On the 7th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
So I remember the Christmas that we got our first annual Disneyland passes. We had opened all the presents and then my dad told me that he had forgotten his watch upstairs. So I went upstairs to his night stand to find an envelop with our names on it. I swear I screamed and rand downstairs. We opened them up to find Disneyland passes.
Along those lines I remember going to Disneyland around Christmas time with the whole family, watching the fireworks and the snow fall after while they play my favorite version of White Christmas ever that I can't find anywhere so I can't listen to it. Anyway, I have had amazing memories at Disneyland.

On the 6th day of Christmas...
On the 6th day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
I think we have been using the same Christmas tree decorations for like all the years my parents have been married. Although I think last year mom threw away the silky yarn red ones, may they rest in peace. But y, we still use the same ones after all these years. We have this think that when we decorate the tree we can all help but we get to put on our personal ornaments whatever they may be. We all have a baby one, some from Grandma and then the sweet awesome ones that we made in school/primary that have our pictures. It is pretty amazing that we still have them after all these years. Oh, and my parents first Christmas tree that is like forever old, haha just kidding, is still alive. It is sitting on my fridge in my dorm all decorated. :D
I know this isn’t Christmas related but oh well. I finished finals today and my body like totally shut down. I’m so glad that they are over. I have gotten four hours of sleep every night, well except for one night…I got 3 ;) So not much sleep + stress + finals =…I don’t even know but it can’t be good. I’ve had all day to relax and all day tomorrow which is super sweet.
All of my friends except one left today so we having been hanging out and watching tv (online). I don’t think I have watched this much tv the whole semester. We had a little girls night of pizza and did our nails. Now tonight I’m sleeping over in her dorm because her roommate is gone so what’s the point in both of us being lonely?
It has snowed again today… it has snowed every day this week. I don’t mind, except for the fact that I have just been too busy to play in it. Maybe we’ll do that tomorrow.

On the 5th day of Christmas...
One the 5th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
I remember going to Grandma Olsen's house and being there will all the cousins and for some reason all I can really remember is the huge tree in the middle of the living room and then a train that went around the base of tree.

On the 4th day of Christmas...
On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
It is tradition in our family to always open our stockings first. We have to wait for everyone to wake up and then someone has to go get them, without going all the way downstairs and then we open then. I think I have used the same stocking my whole life and the same stocking holder. Well...for as long as I can remember. I guess it's also tradition to discuss who gets the rocking horse stalking holder.

"Winter Wonderland" - Andrews Sisters
Well I think the weather forecast today was 40% chance of snow?
It snowed saturday and we got maybe 2 inches and so it started to melt away.
When I woke up this morning it had already snowed at least an inch, and it hasn't stopped snowing. It is actually coming down really thick. I think we've gotten maybe like 2 inches since this morning and it doesn't look like it's close to stopping.
It's really hard to study for finals when it's snowing outside [sigh].

On the 3rd day of Christmas...
On the 3rd day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
I remember one Christmas when we were living in California we had the sister missionaries over. They brought their packages that had been sent home and took turns opening them with us. I don't remember much more than that, but I always thought that it was cool to have the missionaries over to open Christmas presents with.

"Crazy little thing called Love" - Queen
So my RA got engaged this week on her birthday...she is younger than my roommate. Anyway, that makes number 3 for my floor.
On the 2nd day of Christmas...
On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
Up until we moved we would spend Christmas Eve with my Dad's family. We would switch which houses we went to and we would exchange presents. It was like having 2 days of Christmas! After we moved it was kind of hard to hold up that tradition, but this Christmas we get to go to California and spend a day with them. I'm so excited!

On the 1st day of Christmas...
So I know I haven't blogged in forever! School has just been crazy and this next week is finals. So I promise to catch up with everything while I'm home over the break when I have the time.
I decided that I would do the 12 days of Christmas and every day share a Christmas memory or tradition. I missed yesterday so I'm doing it today.
On the 1st day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
I don't think that this has been all my life but for most of it, I remember my mom making these amazing sticky buns as we call them for Christmas breakfast. She would start them the night before and then put them in the oven as we were opening presents. Then when they were ready we would take a break and it them. Sometimes they have gone wrong, hahaha, but they are still good. We always anticipate that my mom will make them. Hopefully this Christmas that tradition will stay!

"What is this feeling?" - Wicked
You know me and my roommate really do get along, not as well as Shalyn and I did but we can live together. The only major difference between us is our music choice. She won't let me listen to Wicked, she got upset for me listening to Christmas music, what's next she won't let me listen to church music?!
Ok so that statement is a bit of an overreaction but that's how I feel. She's always complaining about my music. I guess I should be thankful that that is the only thing that makes me upset.

Prop 8
In light of the election I just thought that I would finally write out all of my thoughts and feelings. I wish I was still a resident of California so that I could have voted YES on Prop 8. I'm bothered by the people that are upset at the church for getting involved with this in protecting marriage between man and a woman.
I have always been taught that the President of the church is not really the president of the church, but that he acts for the Lord and Christ and does what They ask him to do. I know without a doubt that this is true and that President Monson and the First Presidency are all spokesmen for the Lord and His will. So if we go off on this little known fact couldn't we just say that it is really the Lord that is getting involved?
The Lord has a plan for us and that was for us to come to earth and receive a body and then "multiply and replenish the earth", that way his other sons and daughters would be able to come to earth and receive a body. Back in 1995, over 10 years ago, the Church put out a proclamation to the word: A Family. It talks about the sacred duties that a father and a mother have in raising their children. It specifically states that "marriage is between a man and a woman". I whole heartly agree that this is what the Lord truly wants. If we did allow gay marriage what would happen? It would soon turn out that we as people would die out. There is no way for a gay couple to physically have kids together. We weren't made like that.
I'm saddened at the fact that people are so against the church for getting involved. It just makes me think that people are getting too stuck in the world and not looking at the eternal perspective. We as members of the church are SO lucky to be able to see things this way. Why is it that we let ourselves become blinded from that? Whether we were born in the church or converted later, if we really did have a strong testimony then I don't think people would doubt the church. People are so caught up in politics that they are willing to throw away everything they believe in because of something that the church has taken a stance in. It has been said that the church does not take sides in politics, but people should think that if the church finally is, isn't for a good reason? Shouldn't they think that they most be some sort of reason for doing this? We knew that we would be persecuted for it, but they still did it anyway. Shouldn't that be some sort of lit up billboard that this is important?
People are so caught up in the fact that it is their "right" to be able to have gay marriage. So far they still have the same "rights" as any one else who is a resident. In my religion class we talked about what rights were. He said there are three different kinds of rights: 1) it's a direction 2) meaning that something is correct 3) an entitlement. He continued that the third definition is based on the first two. An entitlement is something that moves us in a good direction and that is correct. Well, does gay marriage move us into a good direction and that is correct? Like I previously stated, the Lord specially made it in His plan that a man should marry a woman so that they might reproduce. A gay couple cannot do that, therefor it is not in accordance to the Lord's plan which therefore makes in incorrect.
I know that everyone differs in political views. That is something that we are so lucky to have by through our agency and through living in the United States of America. I am not trying to bash the other side but more just state my views. I being a member of the church as allowed me to look at this in a completely different way than the world wants you to. I'm not going to let myself get caught up in it. I know that the Lord is the one behind promoting Prop 8. All those who are against, I would hate to watch you stand in front of your Lord, your Redeemer, your Savior, your Brother, and tell him to his face that supporting marriage between a man and a woman is wrong.

"Life is a Highway" - Rascal Flatts
Last weekend I went to Rexburg to have a little fun. One of my best friends that I grew up with has two older sisters. One that goes to school with her at BYU-I and one in Provo. They decided to throw her a surprise for her birthday. So her sister in provo drove me and another one of our best friends up there to surprise.
Friday night we got here and surprised her and then got some pizza for dinner. Then we played Ghosts in the Graveyard which was a lot fun. We got back to Katie's dorm and stayed up till four...we did have a lot to catch up on!
Saturday we woke up and got all ready. Then while we waited for her sisters to get ready we went through the gardens and took pictures. We met up and went to lunch and then took Katie grocery shopping because she was all out of food. We, well I, attempted to watch Stardust but I feel asleep. Probably because we did something crazy like...staying up till 4...or something like that. :) After we took Katie back to get her ready to go out to a "fancy dinner" but it was actually a surprise birthday party. After the party I got to go hang out with a friend, Jacob which was fun.
Sunday we went to church with Katie. My friend said she never thought that she would be able to have church where the Periodic Table would be hanging on the wall but I guess that's what happens when you go to church in college. We came back and packed up and drove back to Provo! It was such a great weekend. The three of us are like the three musketeers. We all have known each other basically our whole lives. It was so great to be able to hang out!
The three of us at Little Caesar's. Katie is on the left, the one being surprised, then Courtney who goes to BYU too, and me! While we were in there these four guys came in dressed up at the NMT and I have to say that I was quite impressed.
This is her gang sign for her ward: Woodcrest
One of my best friends ever!!!

The three of us! We are so dang cute!

This is at the party

Let me just say that I am really lucky to be going to Provo. They have really strict rules there, like actual curfews that they have to be back in the apartments by before the RA comes around and checks. Even off campus living. LAME! Oh and people in Idaho totally hate you if you say you're from Provo. I didn't even say anything about my school being better and then go off about how much better their school is. Deep down, I know they're just bitter they got rejected from Provo.

Ya she's such a diva! Just kidding.
Blowing out the candles!

So in Katie's dorm they have this poster on the back of their front door. No matter where you go in the dorm if you can see him, he can see you. His eyes follow you everywhere. It was really creepy. But Courtney totally loves him so she just had to get a picture with him.

This is a tribute to Rachel. <3
It has both of our hometowns on the same sign!!

"Defying Gravity" - Wicked
This week and some of next week is....midterms!!! Ya it's really not as exciting as I make it sound.
Yesterday I had my math midterm...studied a lot! Didn't do as well as I had hoped.
Today I had Physical Science...studied a lot! GOT AN A!!!! I was like bouncing when I walked out of the testing center. I was nervous because I took the test in like 10 minutes and then went back and reviewed everything slowly and then did my essay so it took me almost a half hour. But I rocked it!
Now all I have left is Book of Mormon (which is open book so I don't know if it is even possible to fail that) and Psychology which makes me nervous. But I hear that it is regular multiple choice test. Oh that is music to my ears :)
Man tonight I feel like I get to take a break and not hours and hours of studying :D

"Praise to the Man" - Afterglow
My home teacher is the Brad Pitt of the ward. I have never met him before until today...
Steven is my Sunday School teacher so I already knew who he is. When they first posted our home teachers when the girls found out that he was mine and Jillian's some of the girls reacted. Not in a mean way, just like "You're so lucky!" "I hate you!" "No fair!"
Today I got into RS and sat down at the piano and was trying to figure out what I was going to play. He walked into the room and he was looking around. Then all of the sudden he goes "Where is Lauren Trout?" Everyone kind of looked and pointed at me and and I said I was over here. So he turned around and then put out his hand and introduced himself as my home teacher. It was really loud because RS hadn't started yet but then it just went quiet. After we shook hands and he said he would come and visit us he left. Everyone was still kind of quiet and then people started making comments again. It was funny and awkward all at the same time.

"I Love to Laugh" - Mary Poppins
Last night Shalyn and I went to our first DivineComedy show with Hilary and her roommates. Oh my gosh I almost died laughing. It was sooo good. We plan on going to the next show in November and bring guys too :)
They did "The Cougar Kind" which was a parody of "The Lion King". They changed the songs to all about BYU. The circle of life to that's why we call it the Y. Hakuna Matata turned into UVU. I think that one was probably one of the funniest. And Mufasa didn't die, he was in the hospital at the bottom of the SKWT.
They also did other funny little skits about FHE, dating, shoulder angels, summer jobs and APX. All in all it was AWESOME!! I can't wait for next month. Oh and they threw out glow sticks the whole time too!

"One Family" - Tarzan
This last week for FHE we got to carve pumpkins! But now one of them has died, one has a patch of grass at the bottom, and I'm pretty sure they are all wilting but we had tons of fun carving them!!
This is our "Dad" he's pretty awesome!

Sam thought it would be cool if like one of us could like put it on our head...so I did! I can also balance books, water bottles, and other various items. I think my record for water bottles is 3, but I can do 2 really well.
Our pumpkins! Sea Creature, The Chimp, Jose and Grandpa Gus

Our family! We were missing a couple of guys because they had other things but it was still fun!
This is The Chimp (who died of rabies) and Jose

Today our "Dad" asked us if we wanted to go to the blood drive for FHE. I told him that he would never be able to get me to do it, but I would gladly go and support my family :) I guess we'll find out tomorrow if we are going to go!
This is Kristie, who lives next door, and I carving our pumpkin!

"Not the Same" - Ben Folds Five
You know how when you shared a bedroom you always blamed the mess on being your roommate/siblings fault. Well this time, I can entirely say this is 100% her mess. And here is the proof. No I did not clean right before taking the picture. This is how my room really looked.

"Go the Distance" - Hercules
So I wrote a small post about the homecoming before the game. We won 27-3. Unfortunately due to the game this last week at TCU we lost 7-32. Sad day. So we are no longer undefeated. But back to the game. It was really cold but it didn't snow. We wrapped ourselves up in a quilt and I was pretty warm. Shalyn and I had an AWESOME time!! The Thursday before the game we went to the Homecoming Spectacular. It was actually really good. The Men's Choir sounded awesome. They sang a Welsh song and "Go the Distance" which was this year's theme. Neither of us went to the dances, we just hung out with each other :)
The lit Y. I took this picture from right outside my dorm.

This was after the game. I let Shalyn wrap up in the quilt to walk home in. She did not heed my council in dressing warm.

The next day I got to go to Tucker's baby blessing. It did snow over night but it didn't stick in Provo. We got to play games and eat really good food. It was great to see the family!
"At Last My Past" - TJ McCloud
So I was looking back and I have tons to update on! Currently there are 2 girls in my hall that are engaged, and my RA has been ring shopping so we say she is engaged. Half way through the semester this week!!
so here are some pics from things that probably happened a long time ago.
This is Shalyn at her computer. I spend a lot of time over at her dorm :)

Thanks to Aunt Mitzi for giving me tickets to go see Dial "M" for Murder. It was put on at BYU. I took my friend Allison (left) and Shalyn (right). Allison and I grew up together in Riverside, I think we even went to preschool together. Her and Shalyn ended up on the same floor up here at BYU. So we are kind of like the three musketeers!

This is Shalyn at the General Relief Society Broadcast

My roommate Jillian

They had like a podium on the floor, we were in the Marriott Center, and anyway, it's a color pop!

Jillian had her birthday and so we celebrated. We were heavily decorated. Someone took crepe paper and taped it back and forth in front of our door so the only way in and out was to army crawl. Then the girls next door blew up a bunch of balloons and wrote on them and then stashed them in her room and hung more crepe paper. Her other friend and I took her out for dinner at a pizzeria. It was a lot of fun!

We also made her birthday cake :)

"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" - Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne
Man I still have so much to blog about but no where to put my pictures. [sigh]
Today is BYU's homecoming! GO COUGARS! We play New Mexico. The weather outside is frightful. They have predicted snow for today...and tonight...and tomorrow...and then it supposed to warm back up to the 60's. We are just having a freak "winter storm" this weekend. My roommate gave me her tickets so me and a friend are going to the game. Hopefully we won't die of hypothermia. I'm just kidding. I just checked the weather...it is 37 but feels like 32. Oh man I am NOT ready for winter.
Rachel sent me a text yesterday to look up a comic. She said it reminded her of me:
Here's the link I tried posting it as a picture but it wouldn't let me. (You have to click back to previous comic until October 10th.)
Yes Rachel, that is like me. I do take my Sudoku very seriously. :D

"Falling in Love" - Aerosmith
Due to lack of room on my computer, I haven't been able to transfer my pictures to update but soon I will be able to catch up. In the meantime...
A girl on my floor got engaged tonight. I think that's gotta be a record. 4 and a half weeks into school. She said they've known each other their whole lives but still. Wow.

"Catch A Wave" - Beach Boys
This weekend Brandon, his two friends and me went home (to vegas) for a day on the lake. It started out great! No wind, the water was super nice. Well when we started back the windy. I've never been on the lake when it's been that bad. Mom said it was like the ocean. But we had a good time nonetheless. I didn't put on sunscreen so I got a little burned but now it's Tuesday and it doesn't hurt at all and I'm not even red!
This is the car drive there. I was getting bored.

More boredom.

I took a picture of my reflection in the sunroof.

The lake! If you go in between those two cliffs...it's the back side of Hoover Dam!

Brandon getting ready to wake board.

Mom basking in the sun rays.

Brandon

Brandon and his friend Darren went on the tube.

Meghan was the flagger.

Mom and meghan are next!

Now the three boys, Darren, Brandon and Kyle went on the two person tube. They actually stayed on longer than we thought they would.

On the way back, it was WAY rough. I was sitting on the side of the boat that seemed to be the direction the wind was blowing, so I was in the soak zone. I lasted about two minutes before I literally jumped to the middle of the boat and laid on the two semi-inflated tubes and had a pretty nice ride back :) I was lucky, whereas most other people have battle scars to show for how bad the ride was. But we had a great time!
